I've dug out an old PC which I was going to let my 7yr old daughter use, but I've forgotten the password.

assuming this pc is yours, the best solution that comes to my mind is to replace the hard disk - then the password will be deleted. its a bit of a hassle but you wont have to pay for a new pc
reload windows. password gone.
