The mouse has a mind of its own. It sometimes zooms all over the screen, occasionally gives me control for a few seconds before heading back to the corner. Have anti-virus but it wasn't updated for a while.

You mean the touchpad? Isn't the ThinkPad a laptop with that funny red eraser thiny on it? There should be sensitivity controls for in in Control Panel-mouse.

if its just the mouse i agree clean it if not just get another one they are really cheap if you have money issues buy the same one and return the old one in the same packaging its not the most honest thing but the stores don't loose any money they get credits for everything don't attempt this if your mouse looks damaged or looks different than the one you are going to return
