Why dial-up? Win 2000 on a 500MHz CPU can run at 10MHz. (I just set one up as a mail router on Thursday.)

But you can set up a dial-up connection without the carrier - it's just another phone call to them. You do need a dial-up number for your provider, though. (Carrier and provider aren't the same with dial-up, even if they're the same company.)

no they just give you a cd or you can make a dialup connection in control panel. you must type in there number and your user name and password. but i think your computer should handle faster internet connections like dsl or cable.
Your machine can probably handle DSL or Cable just fine.
