I have windows xp installed over the top of windows 2000. How do i reformat the computer.?

Need to reformat computer so i have only the one system running.

If you used the Windows XP upgrade version, then you probably have to install Windows 2000 first, then install the Windows XP upgrade again.

Start by rebooting onto the Windows 2000 CD. Pick the DELETE function to remove all of the old partitions, then install on unpartitioned space so it Formats from scratch. Once the basic devices are installed, then start installing Windows XP.

Put your XP install disk in and this time instead of choosing to install in an existing partition, delete the partition, it will then give you the option to re-format. Be sure to back everything up first as this will erase all the data on the hard drive. But you will be glad you did it.

If you have the upgrade disk it is NOT necessary to install windows 2000 first, but you will be prompted to insert your original Windows 2000 CD for verification purposes during the install process.
just put in the Windows XP disk

reformat.

insert the windows 2k disk when asked -then continue.

Done.
Put CD and start the pc and format and install XP
